You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown

2 Jun 2016 to 18 Jun 2016

GUILDFORD’S Garrick Theatre is taking a fresh approach to the classic 1967 musical You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown with a cast of young actors channelling their inner child to take on the roles of lovable loser Charlie Brown and his gang of six.

Bassendean director Celeste Underhill said the light-hearted musical showed a day in the life of Charlie Brown and his Peanuts gang in a collection of short scenes and songs based on the popular comic.

”Liam Gobbert will play lovable loser Charlie Brown who is one of the great American archetypes and a popular and widely recognised cartoon character,” she said.

“Tania Morrow will take on the role of Charlie’s litter sister Sally Brown.

“Sally has a take it easy approach to life, preferring to slide by while doing as little work as possible.

Ms Underhill said Brittany Isaia will play Lucy van Pelt, the older sister of Linus.

“Lucy is characterised as a crabby, bossy and opinionated girl who bullies other characters in the play,” she said.

Ms Underhill said 14-year-old Caleb Stevens would take on the role of Schroeder who is distinguished by his precocious skill at playing the toy piano, as well as by his love of classical music and the composer Ludwig van Beethoven.

“He is also the object of the unrequited infatuation of Lucy van Pelt, who constantly leans on Schroeder's piano, much to his annoyance,” she said.

“Charlie Darlington will play Linus Van Pelt who though young, is very intelligent and acts as the plays philosopher and theologian.

“Juvenile aspects of his character are also displayed with Linus almost always depicted holding his blue security blanket, for which he is often mocked by other characters, and he often sucks his thumb.

“Mazenod student Liam Borbas is Snoopy, Charlie Browns pet beagle, and while he speaks he is not understood by other characters.”

Ms Underhill said the family-friendly production would be a hit for all ages.

“I love the songs and the fact that it is a small cast,” she said.

“There are great character roles for actors to sink their teeth into.

“Peanuts is a classic and timeless. The characters will live on forever.”
