Written in 1927, To the Lighthouse, is largely set in one day on The Isle of Skye. The sea reflects the cadences of the thoughts of those on the island, which is largely the way the book is told - through thoughts, visions and emotions.

Two characters: Lily Briscoe and Mrs Ramsay are caught between following their passions and caring for others. In many ways these women represent the all too real choice for women in that era - either to have a career, or be a married woman with children.

The performance, by Teresa Bell, runs for about 50 minutes and looks at the frailty of human relationships and the tumultuous way humans collide with each other, often crashing into each other's dreams.

Woolf, called the work, less a novel than an elegy, though it is always cited as one of the best books of all time.
