Leonard Weiss is an emerging Australian conductor. He is a student of Marin Alsop at Johns Hopkins' Peabody Conservatory, where he received the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra 2020-21 BSO-Peabody Conducting Fellowship and made his opera debut conducting Kaija Saariaho's Émilie.

Leonard received the 2020 Mr and Mrs Gerald Frank New Churchill Fellowship and an Ars Musica Australis Arts Fellowship. His local accolades include 2016 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year for Youth Arts and Multimedia, and a range of Music Director positions including being Artistic Director of the Canberra Sinfonia. During 2021 Leonard is excited to be the Assistant Conductor for
performances with the Melbourne, Queensland and Sydney Symphony Orchestras, and the Vietnam Requiem in Canberra.

Leonard is a dedicated advocate for contemporary Australian composers and enjoys making music
with passionate friends and performers in Canberra. He is elated to work with the National Opera team for their inaugural production, and to be a part of presenting innovative performances in the heart of our National Capital.
