NUNSENSE, a musical comedy
Coolum Theatre Players Inc presents
NUNSENSE, a musical comedy

28 Nov 2014 to 7 Dec 2014

Nunsense is a hilarious talent show staged by five survivors at the Little Sisters of Hoboken nunnery, the rest of the sisterhood having succumbed to botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia, Child of God. The remaining "Little Hobos" parade their talents at a variety show staged to raise funds so that the last four of the dearly departed can be buried. The score pulses with merriment and an unabashed desire to make you laugh, with songs and spontaneous comic interludes paced at break-neck speed. Amid the merriment is a riotous audience participation quiz that has everyone rolling in the aisles, Nunsense offers a cornucopia of hilarity for the whole family, proving conclusively that nun rhymes with fun!

Creatives David Williams David Williams
Director

David has a lifetime of musical theatre productions to his credit. At the age of 19 he acted and sang in musicals as well as directing his first major musical, OLIVER at the young age of 21, in New Zealand on the professional J C Williamson revolving set.   This was to be his introduction to the wonderful world of directing and over the years he has directed more than 55 of New Zealand’s and Australia’s most successful musical productions.

David expects only the best from his cast, and the cast must perform to the high standards he sets.  He likes to build a cast who are supercharged and warm hearted, and they must have the magic and mastery which musical theatre demands. He strives for perfection and the most artistic and professional product possible.   He achieves this through communicating, team work and positive praise. And of course heaps of rehearsal time.

Other productions to date include JOSEPH (5 productions), ANNIE  (3 productions), FIDDLER on the ROOF (5 productions), OLIVER (6 productions), MISS SAIGON (2 productions), LES MISERABLES, EVITA (2 productions), NUNSENSE (4 productions), SOUND of MUSIC, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (3 productions) GODSPELL, MY FAIR LADY, SOUTH PACIFIC, MUSIC MAN, ME &  MY GIRL, to name a few.   As well as this, he writes and directs theatre restaurant revues and is a co-founder of the very successful Sunshine Coast Youth Theatre Company tutoring and mentoring young people in  theatre craft, acting skills and techniques.  In New Zealand he also directed many children’s theatre pantomimes and stage productions and was rewarded with  Life Membership of this group.

His other skills include Stage Management,  Set Design, Theatre Sales and Marketing, Wardrobe Design and the production of promotional materials for shows.

David was delighted when Coolum Theatre Players invited him to direct NUNSENSE  and is enjoying  his association with them.  Also praising the talents of Rory Quinn as Choreographer.  And of course his amazing cast and crew.

Cast Cathy Quinn Cathy Quinn
Reverend Mother
Cathy Quinn has been involved in all facets of theatre for thirty years, mostly as an actor.  Her favourite roles have been the evil Nurse Ratched in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, Cora in “Calendar Girls”, and the simple Dawn in “Steaming”, the latter of which Cathy performed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and on tour in NSW in 2011.  The role of Sister Regina, Reverend Mother is another favourite and close to her heart, having played the role back in 2005.  The thing Cathy enjoys most about theatre is the opportunity to play characters that ‘just aren’t me.’  What does she enjoy least?  Learning lines!  This is Cathy’s first production with Coolum Theatre Players. more ...
