Mr Burns
State Theatre Company South Australia presents
Mr Burns

22 Apr 2017 to 13 May 2017

By Anne Washburn

D’oh! A dazzling new American comedy of the future.

A post-apocalyptic America. A world without power. Which of our modern myths and legends will survive to be handed down through the generations? Do you even need to ask? It’s the The Simpsons!

A group of survivors gather and, to distract themselves from their seemingly hopeless situation, begin to recount the classic Cape Feare episode of The Simpsons. Soon they become the hit theatrical troupe of this dark new world, specialising in The Simpsons recreations. Anne Washburn’s international hit comedy dissolves the barriers between high art and pop culture and imagines a shatteringly funny world where The Simpsons becomes the new bible.

Directed by Imara Savage (The Comedy Of Errors) and starring Helpmann Award winning stars Mitchell Butel (Avenue Q) and Esther Hannaford (King Kong, Little Shop of Horrors) in a co-production with Belvoir, Mr Burns will surprise with its breathtaking invention and delight with its idiosyncratic imagination.
