Synopsis
It’s a Wonderful Life
Adapted by Anthony Palermo, based on Frank Capra’s 1946 film
George Bailey has given up his life’s dreams for the good of Bedford Falls. But when he loses $8,000 on Christmas Eve, his world goes dark—until an unexpected Christmas visitor shows him how rich he really is.
A classic and heart-warming tale,
It’s a Wonderful Life
is the perfect antidote to holiday anxiety and grief, reminding us that no man is poor who has friends.
The number one Christmas movie on Rotten Tomatoes (that fount of knowledge for all things filmic) is Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life starring Jimmy Stewart. The film is now over 70 years old which means that they’ll be a whole generation (or two) of people who have missed being drawn in by its magic. JTDTC wanted to change that and so we’re bringing the very faithful stage version of this uplifting story to the charming Greek Theatre in July 2023
Dates:
4 – 15 July 2023
Location:
Hellanic Theatre (The Greeks Theatre), Addison Road, Marrickville
It’s a Wonderful Life
is the story of one man’s struggle with life’s knockbacks. Despite the title, George Bailey’s life isn’t that wonderful. It’s tough and nothing like he dreamed it would be. The story tackles the issue of mental health with truth and gentleness. Sadly, in his busy-ness, George doesn’t get a chance to see how much people appreciate him. An unexpected visitor changes all that.
This production will give us all the gentle nudge we need to look out for people and to let them know that we’re there and that we’re glad that they’re there. There are definite echoes of Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” in this one and we’re thrilled to put this onto a Sydney stage before the whirl of the 2023 Christmas season starts in earnest. Prepare to have your heart swell.
