Synopsis

The Pirates of Penzance is the story of young Frederic, who’s turning 21. Till now he has been in the service of a band of pirates. But since he’s all grown up, he’s decided it’s time to leave them. He’s also fallen in love with Mabel, the daughter of the Major General. However, the Major General is horrified to discover that the Pirate King and the pirates have claimed all Mabel’s sisters as their future brides! Frederic believes that since he is an ex-pirate, he has a solemn duty to society to put things right, and calls on the police to sort out the pirates… with ridiculous results! This fun and silly operetta is the work of the famous duo, Gilbert and Sullivan. It was first performed in 1879, and it still entertains audiences today.
Performed by Perform Australia’s musical theatre students aged 9-15, this show is sure to delight Gilbert and Sullivan fans.
