Frank is a bugger, but somehow Frances has fallen for him. They happily leave chilly Melbourne for tropical Queensland, seeking warmer climes and a change in lifestyle, to the horror and inconvenience of their children. Soon, however, their dream faces a new threat: signs of age betray themselves in Frank's failing heart. Meanwhile, Frances' daughters demand her return, if only to care for their ever-growing broods.

Travelling North premiered in 1979 at The Nimrod Theatre, with John Bell directing Frank Wilson and Carol Raye. It swiftly became an important play in the Australian canon. This, its first ever production at STC, brings Williamson's affectionate, insightful play, with its nosy neighbours, sexagenarian raunch and family wrangles to the intimacy of Wharf 1 Theatre.

Following 2011's ZEBRA!, we welcome Bryan Brown back to the STC stage as charming rogue Frank. The Fury team brings this Australian classic to life with elegant simplicity.
