Prize Fighter
La Boite Theatre Company presents
Prize Fighter

25 Sep 2018 to 28 Sep 2018

Theatre, Brecht said, should be as exciting as a boxing match. It should exist under harsh lights, its mechanisms naked, its audiences cheering and applauding every punch. And it should matter.

Get ringside for a rare theatrical combo: engrossing storytelling paired with the visceral thrill of live boxing.

Fleeing the Congo as a child, playwright Future D. Fidel lived in a Tanzanian refugee camp for eight years before being granted refugee status in Australia. Prize Fighter is inspired by his own story and those of the people he has known.

Isa is a young Congolese boxer blazing an impressive career between the ropes. Gearing up for the national title fight, he soon discovers it’s not just his opponents he has to outdo, but the demons from his tortuous past as a boy soldier. Prize Fighter is skilfully realised theatre that generates considerable emotional potency. What makes it especially powerful is the complexity and delicacy that runs through Isa’s story.
