The Adventures of Scrote Man & Pube Boy
Groovy Boots Theatre presents
The Adventures of Scrote Man & Pube Boy

14 Mar 2014 to 15 Mar 2014

IN THE best tradition of the 1960s Batman TV series, Scrote Man and Pube Boy are here to save the day!

Presented by Groovy Boots Theatre at the Fringe Festival of Arts Busselton, The Adventures of Scrote Man & Pube Boy is an in-your-face pastiche of the superhero genre.

Using everything from tongue-twisting alliteration and dodgy props reminiscent of early Doctor Who, matched with a recalcitrant narrator, the show features two masked men in tights who really shouldn’t be.

Their mission is to stop an evil nemesis from plucking the unmentionables from all of Perth’s population.

Written by Chris Thomas, who also plays the title character Scrote Man, he was inspired after seeing various shows at the Perth FRINGE WORLD Festival 2013.

“I particularly liked the anarchic energy and ad-libbing in Testaclese & Ye Sack of Rome and the sheer audacity of Pretending Things Are A Cock,” he said.

“After our success with He Died with a Felafel in His Hand at The Flying Scotsman’s Velvet Lounge, the venue was keen for us to come up with a FRINGE WORLD show.

“All those things combined led to The  Adventures of Scrote Man & Pube Boy, which we performed for FRINGE WORLD 2014 before heading down to Busselton.

“It’s probably best described as ‘pub theatre comedy’ – a raucous sort of show you can enjoy with a beer in your hand.

“The Batman series with Adam West and Burt Ward was obviously a strong influence, harking back to its own slightly ridiculous nature.

Setting up Groovy Boots Theatre as an independent production company in 2010, Thomas and Phil Barnett (the show’s director) deliver paid acting opportunities for actors, under a profit-share agreement.

The results have a been sell-out season of the Australian wedding farce Dimboola, the WA premiere of the bizarre Christmas comedy The Eight: Reindeer Monologues and a season of He Died with a Felafel in His Hand described by one of the playwrights as “possibly the definitive version”.

“With this show, our aim is to deliver something that is pure fun,” Barnett said.

“Think of the material you might get with stand-up comedy and then use it in a theatre show – that will give you an idea of the humour.”

The Adventures of Scrote Man & Pube Boy plays at 9.45pm March 14 and 15 at the Acting Up! Drama Studio, ARTGEO, Queen Street, Busselton.
