BIO

Emma is a classically trained singer, actor, director and voice coach, developing her love of voice at a young age at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music and later  through the AMEB and Trinity College, London. She has taught voice performance and acting for over 20 years, and in recent years has spent much of her time on the production side of the theatre world.

Emma is also accomplished theatre performer.  Highlights include roles in The Wedding Singer (Linda), Guys and Dolls (Miss Adelaide), Little Shop of Horrors (Crystal), Titanic the Musical (Alice Beane), Godspell (Joanne), Men at Arms (Cuddy the Dwarf), Noises Off (Poppy), The Vicar of Dibley (the Vicar), Fabbalous and Fabbalous Too (Margherita), Hairspray (Prudy Pingleton/Matron/Gym Teacher), and The Full Monty (Georgie Bukatinsky).  She has also appeared many other productions including Iolanthe (Celia), Pirates of Penzance, The Gondoliers (Gianetta), Ginger Meggs and the Missing Link (Mrs Meggs), Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Oklahoma, as well as a number of cabaret and theatre restaurant performances.  Once described as a ‘comic gem’, Emma received a Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) Award for her performance as Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls in 2004, and received CAT nominations for her roles in Little Shop of Horrors and The Full Monty (2006).

In her spare time, she is a consulting lawyer, a marriage celebrant, and a mum of two amazing boys who may well be destined for life in or on the stage if their at home theatre productions are any indication.

Jenna has been involved in music from the moment she could create a sound.  Her natural ability and love of music were first evident at an extremely young age and she began violin lessons in primary school.  She had also always shown an extraordinary sense of rhythm and began to play percussion through the Instrumental Music Program at 9 years old.  Jenna’s involvement with IMP is still strong today and she is about to visit Japan with the Senior Concert Band as a mentor on their concert tour – her third trip to Japan with SCB.  Jenna progressed through the Primary Concert Band, into the Junior Concert Band and then, under the direction of John Agnew, was involved in the Senior Concert Band for 5 years (this included a special dispensation to stay with the band for their 2005 trip to Japan, even though she had finished school the year previously).  Jenna also accompanied the band to Japan  as a mentor on their next tour.  During her high school years, Jenna also attended the special music program at the Canberra School of Music, wherein students were selected to be involved in advanced music instruction and performance, attending the School once a week during normal school classes, in addition to their music tuition at school.  At college, Jenna studied Music as part of her tertiary package, gaining very high marks for studies in both classical and jazz styles.  Jenna attended Narrabundah College and also studied Drama at tertiary level, performing in a range of plays at the school. 

In addition to her musical studies and her work with the IMP, Jenna has played drums and percussion for a range of musical groups, including two rock bands.  Jenna is a prolific composer and arranger and has performed many of her original pieces on stage with these bands.  Jenna has also successfully taught herself keyboard and guitar, and plays both these instruments with competence. Most recently, Jenna has rediscovered her love of concert band repertoire and has joined the Canberra City Band in 2012, Canberra’s A-Grade concert band and one of only two A-Grade bands to play at the State competitions, one of seven to play at the National Titles in Brisbane this year.  In the past two years, Jenna has turned her hand to performing in musical theatre orchestras.  Under the musical direction of Rose Shorney, Jenna played percussion in both Annie and Witches of Eastwick at the ANU Arts Centre.  She is currently in rehearsal for La Cage Aux Folles, again with Rose.  Earlier this year, Jenna was the single percussionist for the Queanbeyan Players production of Kismet, an extremely challenging undertaking, under the musical direction of Jennifer Groom.

This is Jenna's first opportunity to undertake the role of Musical Director - Orchestra and she is looking forward to amassing an amazing array of musicians to play the fabulous music of My Fair Lady.

Dance has been a part of Belinda's life for as long as she can remember, whether it was participating in classes or teaching.  Belinda has learnt styles such as jazz ballet, tap dancing, classical ballet, contemporary, Latin American and Ballroom.  She has taught dance classes for a dancing school in Sydney which allowed her to learn and teach the various dance styles. It also allowed her to assist with producing dance recitals including developing costumes, honing stagecraft and managing backstage.  Belinda has also performed in various dance recitals, dance performances and esteiddfods both in Canberra and Sydney.

Upon settling in Canberra Belinda was lucky enough to choreograph for a local amateur production of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe  Other choreography credits include productions such as Godspell, Scrooge the musical, The Music Man, Annie, Ruddigore, Yeoman of the Guard, Me and My Girl, Brigadoon and more recently Kismet.  Whilst a librarian by trade Belinda has also completed studies in vocational education and training as well as a certificate III in fitness.  Recently, she has completed subjects in dance studies. She enjoys both the practical elements of dance as well as learning the theory and history of it.  

Belinda's role in musical productions has been focused on choreography.  However, she enjoys watching the whole production come together and the many elements that are involved in the finished product.   Recently, Belinda has enjoyed participating in a contemporary dance class.  Belinda has always enjoyed musicals and feels privileged to be able to contribute to Queanbeyan players productions. She is very excited to be choreographer for the wonderful My Fair Lady.

Tina has always wanted to play Eliza Doolittle.  It is such a wonderful part and such a funny script. It is especially interesting for her because she has a cockney father who learnt how to "talk proper" when he moved to Australia and joined the theatre.  She’s also been bombarded with old cockney songs from a very young age because her parents met doing The Old Time Music Hall.  As a product of her environment she went on to study theatre for five years and one of the first plays she ever read was Pygmalion which she loved!

Tina went on to the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts to study Musical Theatre and then realised it was the songs that she loved the most.  So Tina has been a Jazz vocalist for the past 15 years.  She does have a slight Audrey Hepburn obsession that goes as far as her naming her daughter Sabrina although luckily didn't extend to giving her son Brodie a girly name. Apart from gigs her favourite stage experiences includes Maria from West Side Story and Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof.  More recently she played Roxie in Chicago and last year was lucky enough to play Sister Sophia in the Queanbeyan Players production of The Sound Of Music.

Gerard is excited to be performing with such a great company of actors and is looking forward to sharing his thoughts on Spain's tendencies for precipitation.  He has previously been seen in Queanbeyan Players' (QP) production of The Gondoliers (2010) as Guiseppie, in QP's Iolanthe (2012) as the half man half fairy and always conflicted Strephon. He was offered a wonderful part in Canberra Opera's impressive production of The Magic Flute (2012), and then got lost in the fields of heather in QP's Brigadoon (2012) where he had the fantastic role of Tommy.

Among other things, Gerard is also responsible for starting ANU's National University Theatre Society (NUTS) in 2001. He also enjoys traveling - he has been known to entertain hostels in Italy, France, Germany and England in between conducting Gelataria tours, teaching new friends how to street-perform, and going on adventures in time (about 2000 years).

Peter has been involved in theatre, both on and off stage, for close to forty years. On stage he has performed in principal roles with many of the community theatre companies in Canberra and Queanbeyan, in productions ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan to Bertolt Brecht. He is best known as a musical theatre performer however, and among his favourite roles have been Old Deuteronomy in Philo’s award winning production of Cats, and the roles of the Mikado in Queanbeyan Players’ Mikado and Herr Schultz in Philo’s Cabaret, for both of which he received CAT Award nominations. His most recent role was as the enigmatic Max von Mayerling in The Q’s 2014 production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Sunset Boulevard.

Off stage Peter has been involved in areas as varied as publicity, set building and play selection, and he is an ex-President of Canberra Repertory Society. He is currently a judge for the Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) Awards, and values experiencing the wide range of theatre which this involves.

Once again, Peter appreciates the opportunity to perform at The Q, a venue which is such a valuable cultural asset for the city of Queanbeyan.

Doreen first began performing in musical theatre in 1998 with Queanbeyan Players.  Her latest role with that company was in 2014 as a nun in Sound of Music.  Doreen also played  the character of Baroness Elberfeld.

As well as theatre performances Doreen has performed singing at Eisteddfods, Church services as solo artist, Aged Care Homes and at Soirees with Art Song Canberra as well as other places. 

Doreen has also worked backstage for Queanbeyan Players and also in the past has been a member of committee over many years mostly assisting with Publicity.  She is currently a member of the committee of Art Song Canberra and member of ANATS.  Over the last few years Doreen has also been assisting the Eisteddfod committee in their organisation.

Doreen has been a volunteer for Palliative Care ACT for seventeen years and has in recent months been developing a choir made up of Palliative Care Volunteers, Pal Care Singers, of which Doreen is Musical Director.

Doreen is looking forward to playing the character of Mrs Eynesford-Hill and wishes she could go to Ascot more often.

Judith has been a part of the amateur musical theatre scene in the region for just on 20 years and performing for 18 (shudder!!). She has worked with most of the musical companies in the ACT/Qbn over that time. Most recently, Judith was a part of QP’s production of “The Sound of Music” in which she played Mother Abbess (and was nominated for a CAT Award). Judith has been a part of many productions on all sides of the stage; performance, crew, stage managing and directing. Judith’s next challenge will be directing the Mikado for QP scheduled for November.

My Fair Lady was one of the first shows Judith remembers seeing as a child and then recited it almost word for word to her class the next day.  Maybe that was the start of a lifetime love of musicals.
